In this movie, Harshad Mehta is played by Abhishek Bachchan and it almost resembles the story of the Sony liv series, Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story. But this time this movie includes a star cast and a hefty budget and is going to be released on Disney+hotstar.

2. Share Bazaar (1997)
This one for the oldie old ones who loved the golden era of Bollywood. Yes! Share Bazaar was made at a time when romantic hits were all the rage but yet the movie survived and did well to garner a bit of attention while educating its audience about the share market. Jackie Shroff, Ravi Kishan, Anupam Kher, and Dimple Kapadia are the stars of the film. The plot revolves around the evil Mehta brothers who are powerful investors and who try to ruin the lives of Shekar and Raj. A watch is worth its appreciation, so go ahead and watch it.

3. Baazaar (2018)
Written by Nikhil Advani and directed by Gaurav K. Chawla, Baazaar hit the big screens on 26 October 2018 and is an awesome thriller drama film. The protagonist of the story Rizwan Ahmed, a small-time trader comes to Mumbai to realize his dreams and lies his way into the biggest trading firms with the help of his girlfriend Priya Rai only to realize later on that he was being played all along by his financial idol Shakun Kothari until then it is too late as he gets in deep trouble for insider trading and government scam, but justice prevails at last.
This is a great movie with a rollercoaster of emotions and revolves around money, power, and the dark side of the stock market. Remember guys Insider Trading is illegal and patience is the key to making money in the stock market, don’t agree with me? Go ahead and watch the movie!

4. Gafla (2006)
Director Hanchate’s debut film and a tribute to the big bull of Bombay Stock Exchange, Harshad Mehta, this movie is good for a one-time watch. The movie opens with the journey of Subodh Mehta, an aspiring stockbroker with big ambitions, and concentrates more on the emotional connections of the characters and the life of Subodh. The hero falls in love, bears the loss of his father, and faces financial trouble and all this happens in the first half of the movie. The plot picks up in the 2nd half and quite aggressively focuses on the scam and the dark side of the stock market, it showcases the fame to which Subodh rises and the difficulty he faces from the system. The climax leaves us wanting for more and the film ends leaving more questions unanswered.
The main thing we have to learn here is that some loopholes in the system if exploited even for the collective good are illegal and will lead to you being put in jail! Follow the rules, have patience and invest mindfully.

This must-watch movie is based on the real incident, which is the financial crisis of 2007-2008. Inspired by the book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday” director Adam Mckay has done a phenomenal job in storytelling. The story is, some few sophisticated traders start observing patterns in the housing finance market and sense the trouble that would come in the future.
The best part of the movie is how the characters in the movie break down or explain to the viewer many complicated terms such as “Synthetic CDOs” and “Mortgage-Backed Bonds” in a very simple way. 6. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
If you haven’t yet watched this movie, then don’t waste time and watch it now! This epic movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill showcases their top-notch performance of their careers. Again, based on real-life events surrounding the infamous brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont and the famous stock scammer Jordan Belfort, the movie tells us the story of the rise and fall of Belfort through beautiful drama and comedy, and much needed financial knowledge.

7. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (1987)
This is the textbook movie that every stock market investor must see! Directed by Oliver Stone with a star-studded cast, this movie revolves around a young stockbroker who is dating the daughter of a wealthy investor and gets involved with him. What follows is drama and some good financial knowledge of how the stock market works and the dangers of insider trading.

8. American Psycho (2000)
It’s a cult classic! The name of the film might not indicate much about the finance story but the plot of the movie deals with the dark secrets of an investment banker played by Christian Bale. Even though there is not much financial knowledge involved in this movie, I thought it is worth mentioning as it beautifully depicts what might happen if you become rich, the absence of contentment, and the disconnect they face among the other rich. 9. Margin Call (2011)
“Remember Boys Remember this Day”, a thriller movie that takes place over 24 hours shows the hustle of a Wall Street firm that is about to collapse financially. Based on real-life events, this movie shows the recklessness and risk-taking by the firm to remain ahead in the race of earning money. They employ some software that they don’t even understand and this leads to a disaster and we get to see how human nature changes to what extent will the firm go to save itself. 10. Money Monster (2016)
Well, I feel that this movie is worth a watch to those who are investing and also to the market analysts. The movie shows the dramatic events that unfold after a person invests $60,000, his entire life savings after believing an analyst on TV. As the stocks of the company plummet, the person takes the ones responsible as hostages. We can agree that there are some really good analysts out there, but there are also some phony ones who try to manipulate the markets by giving out false tips. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYONE BLINDLY BEFORE INVESTING! Do your research and invest!

11. Inside Job (2010)
Remember the 2008 financial crisis? Well, then you will be amazed to know that our former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan had predicted it as early as 2005! Inside job is a five-part documentary that unfolds the events which eventually led to the crisis. The documentary won the 2010 Academy Award…….so yeah, it’s pretty cool if you ask me. 12. Chasing Madoff (2011)
This is a rather interesting nonfiction narrative documentary film written and directed by Jeff Prosserman. This is also a true story based on the novel “No one would listen”. The plot of the movie covers the investigation and proofs of Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi Scheme which was successful in scamming an estimated 18 billion people including fake returns.
The Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that pays the existing investors with the funds collected from new investors and such kind of scheme requires a constant flow of money to survive. This is similar to the pyramid scheme that was rampant in India, remember??!!

13. The Ascent of Money (2008)
This is a beautiful six-part TV documentary written by Niall Ferguson. It educates us about the history of money, how it came to be, the relationship of man with money, the credit system, and banking. It also tells us how the stock market functions. This is a must-watch if you are new to investing and want to understand “How Money Works”.

This film shows the dirty underbelly of real estate sales and the pressure the salesmen face. The motivational speech by Alec Baldwin steals the show.

15. Rogue Trader (1999)
Nick Leeson, the rising star on the Singapore trading floor causes the insolvency of Barings Bank, the world’s second-oldest merchant bank! This guy to become big, hides enormous losses from his superiors in hidden accounts which eventually blow up and take him down.
The lesson we can learn from this movie is about risk management and financial oversight. It is important that even in the face of advert situations one must not let lies take hold of them.
